Here’s a fantastic opportunity to sail on board a tall ship and to experience life on board one of these magnificent ships. The term “tall ship� is an all-embracing name given to any traditionally rigged sailing vessel. It covers a wide variety of vessels from a small cutter with one mast to a fully rigged ship with three or more masts. Your experience will take place on either the J.R. Tolkien, a 2 mast topsail schooner or the Artemis, a 3 mast barque.

Joining the ship at 10 am you will be welcomed on board with coffee and biscuits. Following a safety briefing the ship will then head out into the Solent and will start to hoist some sails. The crew will be glad of your help with the sails and helming and they will be pleased to explain the ship’s rigging and construction. But if you prefer to just sit back and relax our catering team will be at your service. A buffet lunch and afternoon tea will be served during the day and a pay bar is available on board. The ship will return to port at 5 pm.

Notes

On purchasing this experience you will be issued with a voucher valid for ten months, for one Tall Ship Sailing Experience for two people. You are then free to call the operator to book a date for your experience. Your experience will be on one of two ships, either J.R. Tolkien or the Artemis. Children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately the ships are not suitable for wheelchair users. Should you have any mobility restrictions please contact the supplier to check suitability. Available dates for 2006 are: Saturday 29 July 2006 - departs from Portsmouth Sunday 30 July 2006 - departs from Portsmouth Saturday 5 August 2006 - departs from Portsmouth Saturday 9 September 2006 - departs from Portsmouth Saturday 10 September 2006- departs from Portsmouth Dates for 2007 are yet to be released.
